Pacific Highway closed after crash – Tabbimoble

Police are on the scene of a serious crash on the Pacific Highway.
About 12pm today (Wednesday 27 March 2013) police were called the Pacific Highway at Tabbimoble, about 20km south of Woodburn, after reports of a crash.
Man dies in light plane crash at Lismore

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner after a man died in a light plane crash in the State’s north.
Shortly before 9am today (Sunday 24 March 2013), a light plane crashed at Lismore Airport.
The male pilot of the aircraft died at the scene.
There were no passengers on the plane.
The airport is closed to all air traffic and emergency services are on the scene.
Lismore detectives are at the site investigating the crash, assisted by the Aviation Support Branch, and aviation specialists.
Murwillumbah to be the first on the North Coast to receive fibre optic connection

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced that 5000 homes in Murwillumbah will be the first on the North Coast to receive the National Broadband Network (NBN) through fibre optic connection in 2015/16.
Ms Gillard was in Murwillumbah this morning to visit the Murwillumbah Community Centre with Member for Richmond, Justine Elliot, and to make the announcement.
Northern Rivers Conservatorium to Raise the Roof with a Music Marathon

The Northern Rivers Conservatorium Arts Centre aims to raise $15,000 to fund repairs to its historic building in downtown Lismore.
The main fundraising event is a 12-hour Music Marathon, to be held on Saturday 23 March from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm.
Federal MPs launch anti-CSG petition

Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin and Federal Member for Richmond Justine Elliot today used Facebook to launch a petition to make the North Coast CSG-free.

Ms Saffin said: “Our community’s view is clear, we don’t want CSG mining in the Northern Rivers and anywhere on the North Coast. Let’s work together to demand the National Party MPs make the North Coast CSG Free. Please sign the petition and share it with your family and friends.”
Ms Elliot said: “The State National Party MPs are behind the expansion of CSG mining on the North Coast. When we get 10,000 signatures on the petition, the NSW government must debate in the State Parliament our community’s demand for a CSG-free North Coast.”
Disaster Recovery Payments extended to Clarence region

Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payments (AGDRP) have been extended to people severely affected by flooding in the Clarence Valley.
Eligible residents can claim disaster recovery payments of $1000 for each adult and $400 for each child.
The easiest way to lodge a claim for the AGDRP is online at www.humanservices.gov.au/disaster or by calling the Australian Government Information Line on 180 22 66 from 8am to 8pm local time, seven days a week. Completed claim forms can also be lodged in person at a Commonwealth Department of Human Services service centre.
In NSW, Personal Hardship and Distress assistance, Concessional Interest Rate Loans for Small Business and Voluntary not-for-profit organisations, Concessional Interest Rate Loans and Freight Subsidies for Primary Producers, and Grants for voluntary not-for profit bodies are available in the local government areas of Ballina, Byron, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley, Tenterfield and Tweed.
Counter Disaster Operations assistance and Restoration of Essential Public Assets assistance is also available to councils and state government agencies in these local government areas.

They were arrested today (Monday 7 January 2013) as part of a police operation monitoring protest action outside a gas company, which is conducting works at Glenugie, south of Grafton.

Toxic canister washed up at Kingscliff beach

Police are warning the public to be on a lookout for metal canisters after one was washed up on a beach on the Far North Coast this morning.
A 66-year-old man was walking along Salt Beach at Kingscliff shortly before 7.30am today (4 January) when he noticed a metal canister covered in barnacles on the sand.
