Holly Galbraith, Marketing Manager of The Byron at Byron Resort and Spa, attended the 2009 HM Awards (Hotel & Accommodation Management) on August 14.

440 guests representing the most renowned hoteliers in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific were present at the 7th annual HM Awards at Doltone House in Pyrmont, Sydney.

The Byron at Byron Resort took out ‘Winner, Accommodation Property 4-4.5 Star’ and second place in ‘Best Resort’, eclipsed only by qualia, Hamilton Island’s newest luxury offering.

The Spa and Wellness Centre at The Byron at Byron also won the annual national ‘Pevonia Hotel/Resort Spa High Achievement Award’ for excellence in treatment performance this month.

“I’m so proud of the Spa team,” said Spa Manager Melinda Dunn (pictured).

“This is a wonderful achievement for the therapists and a great reward for all their nurturing and the quality of treatments that they perform.

“Our therapists range from beauty therapists to naturopaths, specialised body workers and intuitive healers. We continually strive to exceed our guests’ previous experiences and this award is recognition that we are on the road to achieving our goals.”

To share this achievement with locals, the Spa and Wellness Centre is offering a complimentary collagen eye or lip smoothing treatment with any facial treatment booked for the month of September. This is in addition to the 10% discount that locals automatically receive on all Spa treatments.

Nichole, who has returned to Maclean after many years absence, has recently opened Delphis Holistic Artistry on the banks of the magnificent Clarence River.

“We’ve been open a couple of months now and I am so happy with how the business is going” she said.

“Women are loving our natural products and the fact that they can receive all their hair and beauty services under the one roof”.

Nichole was helped along by BEC Business Advisor Allan Sams. She had accessed the BEC’s free business advice in Forster many years earlier with great results, so called the BEC as she was establishing her new enterprise.

“Allan has helped me with marketing, he has helped me set up my bookkeeping and has referred me to the BEC’s accountant,” she said.

“This helps me monitor the success of my business. I am going to sit down with Allan every six months to make sure I stay on track.”

Allan said: “New business start-up is a big part of what we do.

“With Nichole I saw her only two weeks before she opened, which is unusual. She is very experienced, she just needed start-up advice.

“And she had never done GST before so I helped her with that.

“There are a lot of hairdressers around but this business is special. Consumers are looking for holistic services and Nichole has filled a real gap.”

Nichole began her hairdressing apprenticeship in Maclean 28 years ago, when her father was the local policeman.

She later moved to Sydney, then overseas, pursuing her career as a beauty professional.

“Maclean has a beautiful community feel that hasn’t been lost” said Nichole. “I want to nurture this community with my services.”

The Spa and Wellness Centre’s team of therapists led by Spa Manager Melinda Dunn (pictured) will be on hand to advise on skin and beauty care, provide sample treatments and tours of the Spa.

“I can’t wait to introduce people to our Spa” said Spa Manager and long-time local gal Melinda Dunn.

“Many of our clients are locals but at the same time I know a lot of people don’t know that our Spa is open to the public.”

Ms Dunn, who lives with husband Nick and children Mishna and Eliza in Byron Bay, has trained in beauty therapy, massage therapy, personal training and aqua fitness.

Her passion is balance.

“I love my family and I love my work” said Melinda.

“I work hard and rejuvenate well with real foods, plus a little chocolate and wine.

“Living in our natural environment of sun, water and sand here is awesome and I replenish with dynamic skin care.”

The diverse Spa menu includes naturopathy, astrology, tarot card reading, Cultural Hawaiian Body Work, acupuncture and cosmetic facial acupuncture.

The extensive array of beauty treatments include specialised collagen and gingko eye treatments, body wraps and active, luxurious facials.

With six therapy rooms, spas, a steam room, a relaxation area and Vichy Shower hand-crafted from recycled timbers, the Spa has achieved an international reputation as a place of healing and well-being.

“Our Spa and Wellness Centre is an incredibly beautiful place,” said Ms Dunn.

“Each room has been lovingly designed using rich timbers, the energy is very peaceful and we work hard to ensure it is always a place of healing”.
