Armed robbery at Wiangaree general store – Richmond LAC

Police are investigating an armed robbery at a general store north of Kyogle yesterday afternoon.

About 3pm (Sunday 24 February 2013), a man and woman were working behind the front counter at the store on Summerland Way, Wiangaree, when they were approached by five males armed with a large stick and a knife.

The males assaulted the employees while ransacking the store, stealing cash and alcohol, before fleeing in a stolen red coloured Ford Falcon.

The 64-year-old man and the 60-year-old woman were both taken to Lismore Base Hospital with facial injuries and bruising to their arms and legs.

Police from Richmond Local Area Command commenced a search for the males, locating the stolen vehicle in Bonalbo. All five men immediately fled from the vehicle when they were spotted.

Officers attached to the Dog Unit tracked the men for some distance but were hampered by the swollen creeks in the area following recent flooding.

A crime scene was established and police are currently looking at CCTV footage to identify the attackers.

The five men were described to police as being of Aboriginal appearance, in their late teens or early 20s.

Three men arrested at protest – Doubtful Creek

Police have arrested three men during an operation at Doubtful Creek near Kyogle.

“The men were arrested today (Thursday 7 February, 2013) as part of a police operation monitoring protest action outside a property, where an energy company is conducting legally sanctioned works at Doubtful Creek,” police said.

“Approximately 300 protestors are at the site. The majority of protestors have complied with police directions; however, a small number of people have been arrested.”

A 38-year-old man from Nobbys Creek was charged with refuse/fail to comply with direction and enter enclosed land without lawful excuse.

A 46-year-old man from Dyraaba was charged with refuse/fail to comply with direction and enter enclosed land without lawful excuse.

A man, aged 63, from Larnook was charged with refuse/fail to comply with direction and enter enclosed land without lawful excuse.

All three men were refused bail to appear at Casino Local Court today (Thursday 7 February 2013).

A 35-year-old woman from Richmond Hill was issued a criminal infringement notice for enter enclosed land without lawful excuse.

A 47-year-old woman from Lismore was charged with resist/hinder police in the execution of their duty and enter enclosed land without lawful excuse.

Richmond Local Area Commander, Acting Superintendent Michael Dempsey, urged all protesters to act within the confines of the law or face being arrested.

“Officers are working with protesters to ensure the company can lawfully access their site,” A/Superintendent Dempsey said.

“Everyone has the right to protest peacefully; however, when this obstructs traffic, interferes with people’s safety and hinders their work, action must be taken.

“All reasonable directions given by police must be adhered to.

“Criminal offences and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. Police will take appropriate action.”

Arrests made at coal seam gas protest – Kyogle

Police have arrested three people during an operation at Doubtful Creek near Kyogle.

They were arrested today (Tuesday 5 February, 2013) as part of a police operation monitoring protest action outside a gas company, which is conducting works at Doubtful Creek, near Kyogle.

A man aged 39 from Byron Bay was charged with 2 x counts of resist/hinder police in the execution of their duty. He has been refused bail and will appear at Lismore Local Court today.

A man aged 55 from Woodenbong was issued a criminal infringement notice for offensive conduct.

A man aged 25 from Roseberry was charged with disobey a reasonable direction and was refused bail. He will appear at Casino Local Court on 7 March, 2013.

Death of motorcyclist brings Christmas/New Year road toll to nine – near Whiporie

December 29, 2012

A report is being prepared for the Coroner after the death of a motorcyclist in the State’s north this morning (Saturday 29 December 2012).

About 10.45am, a man, believed to be in his sixties, was riding a motorcycle north on the Summerland Way near Whiporie.

As the motorcycle neared the intersection of Whiporie Road it was involved in a collision with a Mazda utility. It is believed the male utility driver wasn’t hurt in the crash.

Despite the efforts of emergency services personnel on site, the motorcyclist died at the scene.

The motorcyclist’s death brings the State’s Christmas/New Year road toll to nine.

 

Community campaign to save Telstra jobs

Police investigate fatal crash – Kyogle

August 22, 2012

A report will be prepared for the Coroner following a fatal crash in the State’s north yesterday.

About 7.30pm (Tuesday 21 August 2012) a Holden Rodeo was travelling south on Green Pigeon Road, Kyogle, when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled.

Police and emergency services were contacted and arrived a short time later.

The 36-year-old female driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.

A crime scene was established and examined by forensic specialists.

Police said it appears the woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

Kyogle Bazaar moves to the main street

This is John Leadbeatter from Rukenvale, who had his pumpkin weighed in at 67kg at the Kyogle Bazaar’s weigh-in of “Grow Kyogle’s Biggest Pumpkin” on Saturday at Kyogle Showground.

The Bazaar congratulated John on his wonderful first effort at growing a giant pumpkin to this size against all odds with a very wet summer.

Plenty on offer at the Kyogle Bazaar

The Kyogle Bazaar, held on the fourth Saturday of the month, is an opportunity for people to spend some time on the Kyogle Showgrounds exploring a wide range of stalls and activities related to country living.

On March 24th the Bazaar features a poultry show, the weigh-in of “Grow Kyogle’s Biggest Pumpkin”, a cooking competition using pumpkin products and a country music and dance.

Great food is available from Twisted Tucker, using bush foods in demonstrations from 1.30 and the food prepared is available for the to eat there or take home at $15 a head.

Keeping Backyard chooks will be discussed in a workshop for $10 a head.

The Bazaar is encouraging people to take a drive in the country and be part of a rural experience.
