“This year we are offering the general public real ‘lived’ experiences of being part of the Indigenous community and sharing the fun, knowledge and spirit of life,” he said.
North Coast schools to show their green credentials

Schools across the North Coast are keen to show their green credentials at this year’s Sustainable Living Expo at the North Coast National Show.
They have been given the opportunity to do so through the Schools For The Future competition, which encourages students to demonstrate their work on practical ways of minimising resource use, improving recycling and supporting environment projects in the community.
“Our students are involved in sustaintability in three ways,” said the School Education Director for The Wilson School Education Group, Toni Hughes.
“They learn about sustainability in the curriculum, they work to reduce their school’s use of energy and water, and to ensure the school grounds have as small an environmental impact as possible.

On Sunday 1 June 2008 just after midnight a 55-year-old Goonellabah man passed away at the Gold Coast Hospital, Southport.
The male had received serious injuries during an altercation with a 25-year-old male in Invercauld Road, Goonellabah, where both males were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
Lismore detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

On 30th May a Sydney male, James Martin, was sentenced in Lismore District Court to a three-year custodial sentence with non-parole of 18 months for supply of a prohibited drug in Nimbin on 15 March 2007.

Lismore Police are seeking information relating to an incident where several youth have injured a local businessman as he walked in Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah, on Sunday afternoon.
The male was allegedly struck by rocks thrown by the group around 3.30pm Sunday afternoon, causing injuries to his head. He was suffering from shock.

Victims have reported the stealing of two vehicles in the last 24 hours within the command.
A 1990 White Isuzu table-top tow truck was stolen from Pacific Highway, Broadwater, between 5pm Monday night and 7.20am Tuesday morning.
At the time the vehicle had NSW rego plates 4914TT attached.
A 1995 Nissan Navara table-top utility was stolen from a premise in Shannonbrook Road, Shannonbrook, between 10.30am Saturday and 1.30pm on Monday afternoon.
At the time the vehicle had NSW plates UQB883.
If either vehicle is sighted, do not approach, contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Police have charged an 18-year-old Nimbin male with Goods in Custody after he was allegedly sighted to run from police at 5.20pm on Monday afternoon in Cullen Street, Nimbin.
The goods, a considerable amount of cash, were seized under the guidelines of Deal with Proceeds of Crime legislation.

Police from Casino are investigating a serious assault which occurred in Grevillia Place, Casino, at 10pm on Wednesday night.
An altercation allegedly occurred between a number of males where several sharp instruments were used in the assault.
Police have seized four objects.
A 42-year-old Casino man was injured during the incident, requiring hospitalisation for serious facial injuries.
MardiGrass police presence was appropriate: Police

Richmond Local Area Commander Superintendent Bruce Lyons says the police presence in the Nimbin for the annual MardiGrass festival over the weekend was appropriate for the increased crowds.
“We were determined to provide a safe environment for everyone visiting the town,” Supt Lyons said.
“While walking through the crowds I was approached by numerous people praising police for their effort.
“They didn’t feel intimidated or fearful of the police.
“The level of violence was dramatically reduced, with only two assaults reported to police, and we are investigating those incidents.
Nimbin Mardigrass: Police lay 80 charges; issue cannabis cautions

Police have laid more charges and issued cannabis cautions during today’s Mardigrass activities in Nimbin.
Since Operation Brewarrana began on Friday, 80 people have been reported in the town and nearby localities, mainly for drug offences.
Several operations are running during the festival, including stationary random breath-testing, drug dogs, and roadside drug-testing, as well as ongoing high-visibility policing throughout the town.
Officers from Northern Region – including general duties, OSG (Operational Support Group), Highway Patrol and detectives – have been joined by police from Sydney-based units, including the Dog Unit, the Mounted Police and the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), to patrol the Nimbin township and surrounds for the festival.
Nimbin Mardigrass: 21 arrests on day one

Police from Operation Brewarrana have arrested 21 people on the first day of the annual Mardigrass festival in Nimbin.
Officers from Northern Region – including general duties, OSG (Operational Support Group), Highway Patrol, and Detectives – have been joined by police from Sydney-based units, including the Dog Unit, the Mounted Police and the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), to patrol the Nimbin township and surrounds for the three-day festival.
Twenty-one people were arrested today in Nimbin and nearby localities, mostly for drug offences.
During today’s operations police seized cannabis as well as amphetamines and ecstasy.
