Tweed Shire Council launches new e-planning services

Thursday, August 6, marked a major milestone for Tweed Shire Council’s planning processes, with an electronic launch of the council’s new e-planning services on Council’s website as part of Local Government Week activities.
Council’s Director Planning and Regulation, Vince Connell, said the launch was an important milestone in the Development Assessment Review project, and Tweed Shire Council’s ongoing efforts to become a Statewide leader in efficient development assessment practices.
“Staff have been busily working towards and promoting the introduction of e-planning practices, with the primary goal of providing Tweed Shire residents and businesses with more efficient and customer-focused development assessment processes,” Mr Connell said.
“The full implementation of e-planning will involve a major learning curve and cultural change for council staff, local businesses and citizens, and will take several years to complete.”
Elevation sales confirm confidence in coastal real estate market

New planning kit to streamline Tweed Shire Development Applications

Tweed Shire Council has taken the first steps towards a gradual move to ‘e planning’ with the launch of a new Development Application (DA) Preparation Kit and major improvements to Council’s website to streamline the DA lodgement and assessment process.
By assisting applicants with preparing better quality development applications and reducing the times spent requesting further information, Council hopes to speed up DA processing times by several weeks.
The kit contains updated Development Applications and Construction Certificate forms; a step-by-step guide to the sequence of development and building assessment processes; a comprehensive guide to preparing a development application and checklists for the 12 common development types to assist applicants and staff in making sure a DA has all the right information for lodgement.
Mayor of Tweed Shire Joan van Lieshout officially launched the new DA kit at a function at the Murwillumbah Civic Centre Auditorium yesterday.

Development groups ‘circling’ Pacific Pines estate at Lennox Head

Major development groups from around Australia have already begun circling an 80 hectare holding at the popular beach resort of Lennox Head prior to it being placed on the market next week by receivers PriceWaterhouse Coopers.
Prior to Christmas the site achieved concept approval of the proposed masterplan and project approval for stage one from the Minister of Planning under the SEP 3A planning regime.

Commercial building owners offered ‘Green’ support

Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin says local commercial building owners can take advantage of the Rudd Government’s new $90 million Green Building Fund which offers dollar-for-dollar support up to $500,000.
Ms Saffin said the fund will help businesses tackle climate change by reducing the energy consumed in the existing commercial office buildings.
“I know local people are serious about tackling greenhouse gas emissions,” she said.
“After the Government announced its Green loans and grants for households in the Budget, I had a number of people asking about green initiatives for businesses.

Government’s home owners grant move praised

The Federal Government has been congratulated on its ‘momentous step’ to increase the First Home Owners Grant to $14,000 for all first home buyers and to $21,000 for those buying new housing as their first home, under its Economic Security Strategy announced today.
All contracts entered into by June 30 next year will be eligible for the new assistance.
The Housing Industry Association expects the initiative to boost the number of dwellings built over the next year by 15,000. At present, building activity has been on the decline for the past nine months.
A local Mortgage Choice franchise owner, Janet Jenner, of Lennox Head, said it was a bold and positive move by the Government that would improve the sentiment throughout the entire property sector.
