The former Shearwater Steiner School student will next month begin a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science at Southern Cross University.

Caitlin said she had always had a keen interest in fitness and health.

“At school we studied personal development, health and physical education, which I found fascinating,” said Caitlin.

“I loved learning about health and disease, human anatomy and the importance of fitness. I’m looking forward to taking my studies to the next level – everything about the course really interests me.

“I haven’t settled on a specific career yet, but I know there will be a few options open to me once I have completed the course.

“I’m interested in personal training and I may even consider specialising and going into sports physiotherapy.”

The Mullumbimby-based student completed her HSC studies despite battling glandular fever during her trial exams.

Caitlin said it had been a challenging but interesting time.

“Shearwater students sit their exams at Mullumbimby High School, which is much bigger and very different to what I’m used to,” she said.

“It was a bit daunting but kind of cool at the same time. I’m excited about getting into life at the university.

“I love playing sport – especially basketball – so I’m looking forward to being able to represent the university in different sports.”

School leavers like Caitlin, as well as mature-age students, still have time to apply for a place at Southern Cross University as offers will be made throughout January and early February.

Students can study full-time on campus, at home by distance education, part-time while working, or tailor an individual study plan from any of these options.
