Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there have been some big flathead around the mouth of the river, along with some quality bream.

Whiting have come the bite and they’re taking live beach worms.

Mud crabs further up the system and there’s a possibility that mangrove jacks are beginning to move in as well.

The beaches have had flathead, whiting and school jew, with only a scattering of tailor. Some decent jewfish to 20kg as well taking live mullet.

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there have been some nice bream and flathead in the lower part of the Richmond at Ballina along with some school jewfish and whiting.

Some bigger jewfish off the breakwalls, especially at night, aloing with some bream.

Kings out on the 42 fathom reefs with some snapper.

The beaches have bream, whiting and jewfish.

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there have been tailor and salmon off South Beach, with a few flathead and whiting as well.

The walls have school jew and tailor, with bream and blackfish further into the river.

The closer reefs have snapper, trag and jewfish, with pearlies and snapper on the wider reefs and no jackets.
 
The river has plenty of bream of all sizes, still plenty of flathead and the occasional jew. Good whiting on bloodworms.

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there are still bream around and the flathead are improving quite well.

Blackfish running pretty well around the Prospect Bridge and the Porpoise Wall.

The sea has started to build but there have been tailor and a lot of salmon, especially around the walls and South Beach.

There should be a few jew around the walls on lures as the sea picks up further.

Andrew at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says a lot of tailor and some big salmon have been chasing pillies on South Ballina Beach, with some jew and lots of flathead as well.

The closer reefs have been good for reds but too many jackets out wide.

The headlands also have good tailor and the occasional jew, with some big bust-offs on GTs off Lennox Headland. The breakwalls have tailor, salmon and school jew. Also a few bream about.

The Richmond River has plenty of small bream, flathead and the occasional jewfish. One or two blackfish but weed is pretty scarce.

Windy at Evans Head today (Fri) and the surf’s been flat as all week but is tipped to come up over the weekend.

Rhonda at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there are still a few bream around the lower reaches of the Richmond, with quite a few flatties as well.

Blackfish are still going pretty well at Prospect Bridge and in the main river along the Porpoise Wall and up around the ferry.

Beaches have a few bream and salmon, pretty quiet really.

A few school jew and flathead up the beach at Evans Head and I’m sure there are more jew around the headlands if you can find some whitewater – it’s pretty flat.

Everyone’s too busy at Dave’s Bait Shop but Squidge at Ballina Bait & Tackle says Rileys Hill has heaps of flathead and school jew, with bream in the deeper holes.

Broadwater has plenty of flathead but only small bream.

Flathead and school jew at Wardell. Pimlico has flathead and bream on the flats.

The Town Reach has blackfish in all the normal haunts on black weed, flathead in Mobbs Bay, small bream in the Bream Hole.

Outside there were a lot of nice snapper on the closer reefs with a red of 8.47kg and some nice jew and a pearlie or two from Riordans when the boats could get out.

Andrew at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there have been some nice snapper in close and a few on the 32-fathom reefs but the leatherjackets have turned up out there.

Out on the shelf for blue-eye cod.

Jew, flathead and tailor from the beaches with the occasional bream. The walls have nice size tailor and the occasional jew.

The river has flathead, a lot of smaller bream and some school jew from the mouth to the back of the RSL.

Bruce at Dave’s Bait shop says there are plenty of little bream in the river but not much of a sign of any sea bream and the bigger resident bream are still biting mainly at night.

Flatties are hanging on in the lower reaches and are up in shallows on the cool days and down deeper on the hot days.

A few whiting are starting to kick around upstream above Wardell and there are some good fish among them, Bruce says. Blackfish are there along the Porpoise Wall and at the Prospect Bridge approach but they’re fairly patchy at times.

Tailor, too, are patchy but a few decent ones have been caught from the walls and headlands, notably Flat Rock, and especially at night. School jew around the walls are going OK.

Andrew at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says that before the wind got up mid-week there were some nice snapper and pearl perch in close and the longliners were reporting some yellowfin well out wide.

Tailor, a few bream and flathead from the beaches.

School jew and better from the Ballina breakwalls along with tailor, blackfish and bream.

Lots of little bream in the river with some quality fish, especially at night. Some blackfish and flathead along with school jew up at Wardell but most are pretty small.

Not much up the beach at Evans Head earlier in the week despite some great-looking water, just a few small flathead and the odd lonely bream.
