North Coast Academy seeks talent for Netball 15s program

The North Coast Academy of Sport (NCAS) is seeking applications for its Netball 15s Talented Athlete Program (TAP).

To be eligible for selection, athletes must female, born in 1993 (i.e. turning 15 in 2008), current player of a local North Coast netball club and affiliated with a netball association that underpins NCAS,

Applicants must submit a completed application form by August 15 and attend selection trials at Grafton on Sunday, August 31.

The talented squad concept has been developed by Netball NSW and the 11 regional academies throughout NSW in response to Netball Australia’s introduction last year of an Australian 17 and Under team.

Far North Coast Premier Netball League results for game six

June 23, 2008

Game 6 – Far North Coast Premier Netball League competition results:

  • Lismore Daleys 38 defeated Clarence Coast 31
  • Grafton DEX 37 defeated Casino Tatts 29
  • Ballina RSL 57 defeated Byron 2481 34

After a short break the Far North Coast Premier League resumed competition last Saturday with a very close game between Lismore Daleys and Clarence Coast.
 
Clarence Coast dominated play and went to quarter-time break 10 goals to 8.

Lismore showed in the second quarter why they are the undefeated team of the competition as they contested every ball and surged ahead to a 21-12 lead at the half-time break.

Ballina teams perform well at netball State titles

Ballina Netball Association picked up one State championship and was runner-up at another in the NSW Championships in Sydney last weekend.

Ballina won the 17 and Under Division 2 title, ahead of Maitland, and the Ballina Open Minor Division team was runner-up to Taree.

The 17 and Under side (pictured) beat Woy Woy 19-15, Brunswick Byron 26-12, City fo Sydney 11-10, Griffith 17-12, Kiama 28-11, Maitland 15-10, Orange 28-17, Queanbeyan 17-10, Shoalhaven 25-17, Tamworth 25-7, Blue Mountains 20-15, Cessnock 19-13, Eurobadalla 15-14, Hastings Valley 23-19, Macleay 20-14, Nelson Bay 15-10, Port Stephens 16-13, St George 20-17 and Temora 34-13.

Their only defeats were to Wagga Wagga 15-12 and Sapphire Coast 17-16.

Ballina, Brunswick-Byron teams contest State netball titles

Netball Associations across New South Wales are putting the final touches on their 2008 State Championship team preparations which commences on Saturday 7 June at 8am.

Ballina Netball Association will field teams in Under-17 Division 2 and Open Division 2, while Brunswick-Byron has entered in the Under-17 Division 2.

“The Netball NSW State Championships are three solid days of netball on the June long weekend, culminating in the presentation of the State champions — not an easy thing to achieve in a game with over 105,000 participants in New South Wales alone,” Netball NSW said.

The State Championships, a Netball NSW event, will be hosted by Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association in Kellyville with over 1800 participants involved in the event with 1152 games (32,256 minutes) of netball to be played.

Round 5 Far North Coast Premier Netball League competition results:

Lismore Daleys 56 defeated Byron 2481 30
Grafton DEX 38 draw Ballina RSL 38
Casino Tatts 43 defeated Clarence Coast 40

At the completion of one full round Lismore Daleys are undefeated and on top of the leader board with 10 points, closely followed by Casino Tatts on 8 points, with Clarence Coast and Ballina RSL in third and fourth spot respectively.

Leslie Kirk, FNC Netball NSW Regional Co-ordinator, said: “The competition has proved very popular with players who enjoy the consistently high standard of game play.

“Any drop in concentration or lapse in performance allows the opposition to gain momentum with the results so far reflecting some hard fought struggles.”

“Fitness is certainly the X factor as players push to give their consistent best performance over the whole four quarters.

“Umpires are also gaining from this competition as it provides the opportunity to apply their skills at this higher level.”

The competition takes a short recess and recommences on the 21 June with Byron 2481 hosting Ballina RSL at Mullumbimby, start time 3.15pm, Grafton DEX will host Casino Tatts at Grafton, start time 4.30pm, and Lismore Daleys will host Clarence Coast at Lismore, start time 3pm.

“Make sure you are there at your local netball association courts to cheer and support your team in this quality elite competition,”Kirk said.

Clarence Coast 49 defeated Grafton DEX 22
Casino Tatts 43 defeated Byron 2481 42

Round 4 saw a very closely contested game between Casino Tatts and Byron 2481.

The final quarter was a goal-for-goal contest with players from both teams rising to the challenge.

Casino captain Leah Bennett gave full credit to the Byron players.

Round 2 Far North Coast Premier Netball League results

May 11, 2008

Lismore Daleys 50 defeated Grafton Dex 18.
Clarence Coast 44 defeated Byron 2481 38.
Casino Tatts 41 defeated Ballina RSL 34.

After round two, two teams are on equal first — Casino Tatts and Lismore Daleys.

Next Saturday afternoon (17 May) these two teams will meet when Lismore Daleys host Casino Tatts in a game that will decide the outright leader of the competition after three rounds.

The game will start at 4pm at the Lismore Association Courts on Ballina Road Lismore.

A barbecue will operate and the game will be followed by a Coach Education skills session that is open to all coaches within the region to attend for the minimal cost of $10.

On Sunday the regional Foundation Netball Coaching Accreditation Course will be held at Lismore with 20 coaches trying to attain their entry level netball coaching qualification.

Regional Co-ordinator for Netball NSW Leslie Kirk said: “It’s a big weekend for netball in Lismore with a top-level game and the opportunity for coaches to enhance their netball knowledge and experience.” Read more

Far North Coast Premier Netball League round 1 results

The Far North Coast Premier Netball League competition began today with strongly contested games across the region.

Ballina RSL played host to Byron 2481 and came away with a great win 43-23 due to accurate shooting by their goalers Kelly Edwards and Amie Clarke.

The team was sharp in attack and tight in defence across the court, with captain Kaylie Davis praising her players for the consistent effort they put out for the full 60 minutes.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to play a high-standard game and to realise that there are other club players within the area with such good skills,” Davis said.

Far North Coast Premier Netball League

April 23, 2008

All six netball associations of the Far North Coast will be fielding a senior team in the 2008 Premier Netball League, a regional Interdistrict competition of Netball NSW.

The Premier Netball League for the Far North Coast region of New South Wales will commence on Saturday 3 May at Ballina with Ballina RSL v Byron 2481, Casino with Casino Tatts v Grafton DEX and at Lower Clarence with Clarence Coast v Lismore Daleys.

Teams will compete on a home-and-away basis, with games commencing at around 3pm each Saturday, for 10 rounds with a finals series to commence on 16 August 2008
