Surf conditions are ordinary after a week on onshores, and there’s little change in site.

Winds are forecast to be south-east to north-east through until Monday, and the swell is predicted to remain about three foot.

Hopefully, the change in wind direction — after our recent run of northerlies bringing in the cold currents — will lead to warmer water.

I went down to my favourite local swimming spot last Wednesday but ‘piked it’: after a minute standing in knee-deep water, my legs were going numb. It was the coldest I’ve felt the water in 15 years of swimming at that spot.

Marine weather:

Friday until midnight: Wind: SE 5/10 knots in the south, 10/15 knots in the north. Sea: to about 1 metre. Swell: SE 1 to 1.5 metres.
Saturday: Wind: E/SE 10/15 knots in the north, E/NE 5/10 knots in the south. Sea: to about 1 metre. Swell: SE 1 to 1.5 metres.
Sunday Outlook: Wind: SE/NE 5/15 knots.
Monday Outlook: Wind: N/NE 10/20 knots.

Far North Coaster weekend surf report

Several days of northerlies have flattened out the surf, and unfortunately, it’s not going to get any better over the weekend.

The northerlies are forecast to continue until Monday, which is bad news for the hundreds of mal riders who have gathered in Evans Head for the annual mal classic.

The Bureau of Meteorology reports that a high pressure system located in the Tasman Sea will move slowly eastwards during the next few days, allowing a weak SW/SE change to move up the far south New South Wales coast later today, followed by a more vigorous southerly change extending up to central New South Wales coast during Saturday.

Marine weather for Far North Coastal Waters:

Strong Wind Warning south of Yamba.

Friday until midnight: Wind: N/NW 15/20 knots inshore, 20/25 knots offshore, tending N/NE during the afternoon and increasing to 20/30 knots south of Yamba. Sea: 1.5 to 2.5 metres, rising to 2.5 to 3 metres in the south. Swell: NE/SE about 1.5 metres.

Saturday: Wind: N/NW 15/20 knots inshore, 20/25 knots offshore, tending N/NE 20/30 knots during the afternoon. Sea: 1.5 to 2.5 metres, rising to 2.5 to 3 metres during the afternoon. Swell: NE/SE about 1.5 metres.

Sunday Outlook: Wind: N/NE increasing to 20/30 knots.

Monday Outlook: Wind: N/NW 15/25 knots, turning W 15/25 knots.

Things don’t look good for surfing on the Far North Coast over the weekend.

Onshores winds are forecast through until Sunday, when the dreaded northerlies will kick in.

Friday: SE 10/15 knots tending. Sea: about 1 metre. Swell: SE 2/3 metres.

Saturday: SE/NE 10/15 knots. Sea: about 1 metre. Swell: E/SE 1/1.5 metres.

Outlook Sunday: NW/NE freshening to 15/25 knots.

Outlook Monday: SW/SE change 15/25 knots.

Miserable conditions in the surf today, and not much hope for the weekend.

Northerlies have flattened out the swell and onshores are forecast for the weekend.

Friday until midnight: Wind: N/NE 20/25 knots. Sea: 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Swell: SE 1 to 1.5 metres. Chance thunderstorms.

Saturday: Wind: N/NE 20/25 knots increasing to 25/30 knots in the afternoon. Sea: 1.5 to 2.5 metres rising 2 to 3 metres in the afternoon. Swell: E/SE 1 to 1.5 metres.

Sunday Outlook: Wind: NW 10/20 knots shifting SE 10/20 knots, then tending N/NE 10/20 later.

Monday Outlook: Wind: N 10/15 knots increasing to 20/30 knots later.

The summer pattern has arrived early, with today’s northerly winds forecast to remain over the weekend.

This morning there was a swell of about 4 ft on the open beaches, but the wind kicked in early.

It’s likely there will be little in the way of waves over the weekend … but there’s always the footy finals to keep us occupied!

Marine weather:

Friday until midnight: Wind: NW 15/20 knots, increasing to NE 20/25 knots, chiefly offshore, late afternoon. Inshore NW 10/15 knots in the south at first. Sea: 1 to 2 metres, reaching 2.5 metres late afternoon. Swell: S/SE 1.5 to 2 metres. Isolated thunderstorms.
Saturday: Wind: NW/NE 10/15 knots, increasing to 20/25 knots in the afternoon, reaching 25/30 knots offshore later. Sea: 1 to 1.5 metres, rising to 2 to 3 metres afternoon/evening. Swell: E/SE decreasing to about 1 metre. Isolated thunderstorms.
Sunday Outlook: Wind: N/NW 20/30 knots.
Monday Outlook: Wind: N/NW 15/25 knots.

Messy conditions today in the wake of the east coast low, but things should improve over the weekend.

The strong overnight onshore has moved to the north-west, with a further swing to the west predicted and strong offshores forecast for Saturday.

The swell should clean up overnight and there should be plenty of it over the weekend.

Marine forecast:

Friday until midnight: Wind: E/SE 25/33 knots tending NE/NW 20/30 knots this morning and easing to 20/25 knots in the afternoon. Sea: 2 to 3 metres. Swell: E/SE 3 to 4 metres. Heavy rain, easing later.

Saturday: Wind: W/SW 20/25 knots. Sea: 2 to 2.5 metres. Swell: E about 3 metres.

Sunday Outlook: Wind: SW/SE 15/20 knots.

Monday Outlook: Wind: SW/SE 10/15 knots.

There’s a small swell this morning and some nice beach breaks on the open beaches, but the forecast for the weekend is not good, with onshores and northerlies predicted.

Marine weather:

Friday until midnight: Wind: Variable to 10 knots, tending E/NE 10/15 knots in the afternoon. Sea: About 1 metre. Swell: S/SE about 1 metre. Isolated thunderstorms.

Saturday: Wind: Variable to 10 knots, tending N/NE 10/15 knots afternoon/evening. Sea: Less than 1 metre, rising to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon/evening. Swell: S about 1 metre.

Sunday Outlook: Wind: N strengthening to 20/30 knots.

Monday Outlook: Wind: N/NW 20/30 knots, turning S/SE 15/25 knots.

The big swell that has been promised by a low pressure system in the south has eventuated today, with waves well over 2m this morning.

The wind is offshore and is forecast to remain that way until Sunday.

Marine weather:

Friday until midnight: Wind: W/SW 10/15 knots with afternoon sea breeze 5/10 knots in the north. Sea: about 1 metre. Swell: S 1.5 to 2.5 metres.

Saturday: Wind: W/SW 10/15 knots, increasing to 20/25 knots offshore late afternoon or evening. Sea: about 1 metres, rising to 1.5 to 2.5 metres in the evening. Swell: S 1.5 to 2.5 metres.

Sunday Outlook: Wind: SW/SE 15/25 knots, easing later.

Monday Outlook: Wind: SW/SE 10/15 knots.

The surf action should be hot at Lennox Head this weekend, where the Red Bull Pro Junior event will be held.

And it looks like the weather gods will be kind, with a rise in swell and offshore winds.

Today the swell is relatively small, but the forecast is for an increase to 2m.

Offshores are predicted throughout the weekend.

Marine weather:

Friday: W/SW 10/15 knots. Sea: 1/1.5 metres. Swell: S about 1 metre increasing to about 2 metres.

Outlook Saturday: W/SW 5/15 knots, with afternoon seabreezes 8/13 knots. Sea: about 1 metre. Swell: S 1.5/2 metres.

Outlook Sunday: W/NW 5/15 knots increasing to W/SW 15/25 knots later.

Outlook Monday: Decreasing to SW 5/15 knots.

A strong north-wester has made conditions unfavourable today, but there’s promise for the weekend.

The swell has risen overnight to about 5 foot today and the forecast is for a further increase.

Winds for the weekend are forecasted to be from the west south-west, easing on Saturday afternoon, with a moderate south-wester on Sunday.

Marine weather forecast:

Today: W/NW 15/20 knots, increasing to 25/33 knots during the afternoon. Sea: rising to 2.5/3.5 metres. Swell: SE 1.5/2 metres.

Outlook Saturday: W/SW 20/30 knots easing to SW/SE 10/15 knots. Sea: 2/3 metres abating to about 1 metre. Swell: SE 2/2.5 metres.

Outlook Sunday: SW 10/15 knots tending SE/NE 5/10 knots.

Outlook Monday: NW/NE 8/13 knots.
