Man dies following heavy machinery accident at Tyalgum

June 29, 2010

A report will be prepared for the Coroner following the death of a man after he became caught in a bulldozer on a property in Tyalgum, west of Murwillumbah, yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the property shortly after midday (Monday 28 June) where they located the body of a 68-year-old man next to a bulldozer down a large embankment on the property.

Witnesses told police the man had been operating the machine when he got out and left it idling while he spoke with other workers at the property.

As he got off, the bulldozer began to creep forward, gaining momentum. Police believe the man attempted to get back onto the machine when he became caught, travelling some distance before crashing into the embankment.

The man sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Investigations continue.

Tony Zann’s weekend fishing report

June 25, 2010

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says bream have the major performers in the river this week.

Bottom reaches up to Pimlico best with soft plastics, hardbodies and blades working on the rising tide and bait, especially gut baits, working best as the dirty water heads down on the falling tide.

Still a few flathead in the same areas, especially on the shallow banks.

Just the odd blackfish but weed is scarce.
