Appeal for public assistance following serious crash – Ellangowan

Police are appealing for public assistance following a serious motor vehicle crash near Casino yesterday.
About 11.15pm a green Holden Commodore was travelling east along Ellangowan Road at Ellangowan when it allegedly failed to negotiate a right-hand bend, left the roadway and struck a tree.
As a result the 31-year-old driver and his 32-year-old male passenger, both from Casino, sustained serious head and chest injuries.
Both men were taken by ambulance to Lismore Base Hospital where they remain in intensive care in a stable condition.
Body found during search for missing boy – Wadeville

Police searching for a missing teenager have today found a body near Wadeville.
On Sunday 31 October, police resumed their search for a 14-year-old boy who went missing yesterday after allegedly falling from a cliff into the water.
About 11am today, Police Divers found the body of a boy in the water near Hanging Rock Falls.
The boy is yet to be formally identified.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of his death.
Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner, and investigations into the matter are continuing.
Teenage boy missing after falling from cliff into water – Wadeville

A teenage boy is missing after falling from a cliff into water near Kyogle this morning.
Shortly after 11am a 14-year-old male was at Hanging Rock Falls, Wadeville, near Kyogle, with family and friends when he allegedly slipped from a cliff and fell about 10m into a waterhole.
Once the Queensland boy failed to resurface, emergency services were contacted.
Police, Ambulance, SES and the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter attended and searched Leicester Creek, which runs through the waterhole, and the surrounding area, without result.
A police guard has been placed at the scene and police divers travelling from Sydney are expected to resume the search tomorrow morning.
Man wanted on outstanding warrants nabbed by police after 7km foot pursuit

A man wanted on a string of outstanding warrants has been arrested by police following a seven-kilometre foot pursuit in the state’s north.
Police from Richmond Local Area Command’s Target Action Group and the Dog Unit attended a residence on Hillsdale Drive at Muli Muli, near Woodenbong, about 7am on Thursday (28 October).
As the officers approached the house, they allegedly spotted the 29-year-old male occupant fleeing out the back door.
Police pursued the man on foot for approximately seven kilometres across several paddocks, a creek and through bushland before arresting him near Martins Road.
Two men suffer severe burns in petrol fire – Kyogle

Two men have sustained severe burns in a petrol fire and explosion at a northern New South Wales property.
About 6pm yesterday (Friday 29 October), the men set fire to a pile of rubbish at a property on Roseberry Creek Road at Roseberry Creek, near Kyogle.
One of the men then poured petrol onto the flames and the fuel vapours ignited, causing a minor explosion.
The fire spread quickly to a nearby petrol can, which also exploded.

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there have been some big flathead around the mouth of the river, along with some quality bream.
Whiting have come the bite and they’re taking live beach worms.
Mud crabs further up the system and there’s a possibility that mangrove jacks are beginning to move in as well.
The beaches have had flathead, whiting and school jew, with only a scattering of tailor. Some decent jewfish to 20kg as well taking live mullet.
Man charged after alleged glassing – Murwillumbah

A man has been charged after an alleged glassing in Murwillumbah yesterday.
About 3pm yesterday (Thursday 28 October) two men were drinking in an outdoor area of a hotel on Wharf Street at Murwillumbah when they allegedly became involved in a physical altercation.
During the incident one of the men allegedly struck the other to the side of the head while holding a schooner glass.
As a result a 37-year-old Fernvale man suffered a wound to his cheek, arterial bleeding and possible nerve damage.
He was taken to Murwillumbah District Hospital before being transferred to the Gold Coast Hospital where he will undergo further surgery.

A man is undergoing treatment in hospital after being ‘glassed’ during a pub fight at Murwillumbah.
Two men were drinking in an outdoor area of a hotel on Wharf Street, Murwillumbah, about 3pm yesterday (Thursday 28 October), when they became involved in a physical altercation.
During the incident, one man allegedly punched the other to the left side of his head.
The victim suffered a deep laceration to his cheek after an empty schooner glass the offender had been holding shattered over him.
Another step towards Lismore’s GP Super Clinic

Page MP Janelle Saffin said she is delighted that the Australian Government is already moving on delivering her 2010 election commitment of a GP Super Clinic for Lismore.
The Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, today announced that the Invitation to Apply (ITA) process will begin on 6 November, with advertisements to appear in local and national papers.
Ms Saffin said the Lismore GP Super Clinic will provide comprehensive healthcare in Lismore at one convenient location.
“Lismore is a regional hub for health and I have fought hard along with the community to get this facility,” she said.
Young people find a voice on climate change

More than 40 young people aged between 11 and 25 from the Lismore and Byron Bay areas will be participating in a leadership workshop this weekend (October 30 and 31), run by the Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC).
Supported by Southern Cross University’s Centre for Children and Young People, the workshop is being organised by Ahri Tallon, who grew up in the Lismore area.
