Saffin to host income support forums
July 18, 2008
Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin is hosting a series of six income support forums throughout the electorate over coming months.
The first of these forums will be held at Ballina RSL Club on Monday, July 21, from 11am.
The second is at South Grafton Ex-Servicemen’s Club on Wednesday, July 23, also from 11am.
Ms Saffin said Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Treasurer Wayne Swan in March announced that pensions would be comprehensively reviewed.
“The purpose of our local forums is for pensioners, disability support pensioners, people receiving family payments and independent retirees to have direct input into the Henry Commission Review,” she said.
“What we need to gauge is what level of support is sustainable.
“I personally would love to see an increase today.
“My Mum is an aged pensioner who rents, so I understand the need.”
Ms Saffin said that all feedback collected at the six forums would be sent to the Head of Treasury Ken Henry, who is due to report back to the Government by February 2009.
Other forums are scheduled for Treelands Drive Community Centre, Yamba, on Tuesday August 5, from 1.30pm; Casino RSM Club on Tuesday, August 19, from 11am; Lismore Workers Sports Club, Goonellabah, on Wednesday, August 20, from 11.30am; and Kyogle Seniors Centre on Tuesday, September 9, from 11.30am.
To RSVP for any of the forums phone 1300 301 735.
