Police have charged a 21-year-old Byron Bay male with break and enter with intent to steal and goods in custody after he was allegedly literally caught in the act at 12.20am on Friday night in Shearwater Close, East Ballina.

The 48-year-old male victim and his wife were disturbed by the offender allegedly attempting to remove flyscreen from their windows.

The male has gone outside, sighting the male allegedly carrying a pair of his son’s skate shoes, has given chase.

The offender has taken off and run straight into a fence, injuring himself.

The victim has detained him until police arrived a short time later.

The male allegedly had an electrical device in his possession which police believe to be stolen or illegally obtained.
