A man has been charged and will face court following a pursuit at Tyagarah yesterday.
About 4.10pm, police from Tweed/Byron Highway Patrol detected a blue Yamaha motorcycle travelling north on the Pacific Highway near Tyagarah allegedly well in excess of the speed limit.
Officers attempted to stop the motorcycle. However, the rider accelerated away from police.
Highway patrol officers continued to follow the motorcycle and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued through to the township of Brunswick Heads when it reached Riverside Drive, where police were able to stop and arrest the rider.
During a search of the man, it is alleged police located a small amount of cannabis.
The 36-year-old man from Redcliffe in Queensland was taken to Byron Bay Police Station.
The man was charged with 10 offences including driving whilst disqualified, exceeding the speed limit by over 45km/h, driving a vehicle recklessly, resisting arrest and possessing a prohibited drug,
He was given conditional bail and is due to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on the 22 August 2008.
