Five people rescued after Ballina bar mishap
April 14, 2012
The Far North Coast Jet Rescue Boat rescued five people after a vessel overturned on the Richmond River bar at Ballina today (April 14).
Surf Lifesaving Far North Coast said that the jet boat responded to a call at 7.10am.
On arrival at the scene, the rescue crew located five people, all wearing life-jackets, clinging to the overturned vessel, 300m south-east of the bar.
All five were rescued and returned to shore, but due to the rough conditions, the vessel had to be towed to South Ballina Beach for retrieval.
“This is another timely reminder to always make sure you are well-prepared when you venture into the water, especially if you are going boating, the wearing of suitable life-jackets is mandatory,” Surfcom Far North Coast marketing and public relations officer, Michael Gibbs, said. “Also, let someone know where you are going.”
