August 5, 2008
Police are investigating two green laser attacks on aircraft at Ballina last night.
Just after 6.30pm, the pilot of a Cessna 172 reported a laser beam being shone at him as he performed touch and go exercises at Ballina airport.
Almost two hours later, the crew of a regional passenger plane reported a similar incident whilst landing.
Both planes touched down safely and the pilots reported the attacks to Brisbane air traffic control.
Around 8.50pm, a person riding a bicycle across a bridge in Ballina was targeted in a third attack.
Police were called and searched three men, aged between 19 and 21, in a vehicle parked in Lighthouse Parade.
A search of the car uncovered a green laser pointer.
The men were interviewed by police and assisted with inquiries.
Investigations are continuing.
Anyone with information about the incidents is urged to contact Ballina Police on (02) 6681 8699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
