Byron Shire Council has a new General Manager.
Mayor Jan Barham has announced the appointment of Graeme Faulkner as General Manager.
“I am pleased to advise the community that council has been successful in securing its preferred candidate for the position of General Manager,” Cr Barham said.
“Mr Faulkner was the outstanding candidate. He has both local government and commercial experience and a genuine interest in the area and the challenges we face.”
The council said the selection of a new General Manager attracted great interest, with 44 applications received.
A working group of councillors was established to assess the applications and Councillors Barham, Tucker, Kestle and Tabart interviewed seven applicants and remained unanimous in their preferred candidates throughout the process.
“At an extraordinary meeting the elected council confirmed their preferred candidate as Mr Faulkner. We believe he has the qualities and experience to guide the council, and look forward to his commencement as General Manager on 2 June 2008,” Cr Barham said.
Mr Faulkner replaces Pamela Westing.
