Police have arrested and charged a man with the murder of a woman, found dead at Alstonville this morning.

About 3.40am today, police from Richmond Local Area Command attended a house in Deegan Drive, where they discovered the body of a 48-year-old woman.

She had sustained injuries to her upper body.

A crime scene was secured at the house and specialist forensics officers scoured the area for clues.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Lismore Police Station for questioning by investigators.

He was this afternoon charged with murder and refused bail to appear in Lismore Local Court tomorrow.

Local detectives, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, are continuing their inquiries into the woman’s death.

They’re appealing for public assistance as they continue their inquiries and are particularly keen to speak with anyone who might have been in the vicinity of Geoff Watt Oval, Alstonville, overnight and witnessed any suspicious activity.

Update: Donald Paul Yuke, 30, of Alstonville, appeared in Lismore Local Court on Monday charged with the murder of a 48-year-old woman at Alstonville on Saturday morning.

Yuke entered no plea and did not apply for bail. His defence solicitor requested brief orders be made and the case be adjourned to June 3.
