Nominations have opened for positions on the New South Wales Sugar Milling Co-operative board.

Under the co-operative rules a director from each mill area must retire by rotation each year.

Retiring directors can be nominated for re-election.

This year Trevor Gray (Harwood), Tony Carusi (Broadwater) and Mark North (Condong) are the retiring directors and all three are to re-nominate.

If required, a postal ballot will be held to decide who is nominated for endorsement at the annual general meeting in Ballina on November 26.

A person must be a member of the co-operative to be nominated and nominations close on September 22.

Nomination forms are available from the News section of the co-operative website at and each mill or by contacting Co-operative Secretary Greg Sweetnam on 0448 468 681 or email

The co-operative has 600 grower-members and 430 staff and operates sugar mills at Condong, Broadwater and a mill and refinery at Harwood.

Two 30-megawatt renewable energy plants will also be completed this year as the industry diversifies.

The co-operative’s sugar is sold wholesale and retail under the Sunshine Sugar brand.
