My family and I were luckily enough to have considered ourselves friends of the Franies when we all lived in Casino.Micheal(Jackie's dad) trained my daughter Tayla. So there was a large portion of all our time was at the pool.Jackie would have been about 11 yrs old when tayla started training.
In the beginning Jackie was a very shy girl who could not stop smiling. In fact there was only a few occasions that I could say that Jackie didn't have a smile on her face.
Jackie was loved by all as her happy nature and winning smile left her in anyone's memory and heart.
Day in day out Jackie was there training and not missing a beat.
She pushed all the other kids and most of the kids she could beat .
We used to joke that she was a machine ,or we'd call her the energizer bunny, cause she just keeps going and going.
Not to say any of this was easy for Jackie as sometimes she was in so much pain.
Joanne would have to massage and stretch Jackie's musles before every racing event which would sometime bring tears to her eyes, and then tears to anyone who was watching,to see what this kid was willing to go through to race was just outstanding.
She had her down time with swimming as any teenager does, but she pushed through it all to become the swimming machine she is today.
Micheal and Joanne Franey is as much of credit to Jackie as Jackie is to them.
As parents they have done what ever it takes to encourage her to be and do what ever she sets her mind to ,you would not find more dedicated parents as them.
If you read these stories about Jackie and you feel inspired or if they have touch your heart, just think how she has done this to people who she has meet.Jackie will go on living in people's memories for the happy girl that she is even when it has been hard for her to be happy.
Metal or no metal Jackie your our hero we have seen how hard you have had to work and the dedication needed ,you have lived far beyond what any person is capable of in most lives and your only 16yrs.
So congratulation your hard work has payed off YOUR A STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
