The Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre in Lismore will receive $73,000 under the Rudd Government’s $10 million funding boost for community legal centres in recognition of the valuable role they play in providing assistance to disadvantaged Australians.
Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin says additional funding will allow the centre to increase its hours of service.
“As a result of the extra funding, disadvantaged members of the community, particularly those at risk of homelessness or those dealing with the consequences of family breakdown, will have better access to
legal assistance.,” Ms Saffin said.
Community legal centres provide valuable assistance in a range of matters including family law, tenancy issues, employment disputes, consumer credit and debt.
The Rudd Government has also allocated an extra one-off payment of $7 million for legal aid and $4.9 million in one-off funding for Aboriginal Legal Services.
