Police have warned Far North Coast residents to be wary of mail thieves.

“NSW Police are issuing this alert to residents in relation to an increase in incidents in relation to the possible theft or interception of mail from mailboxes by unknown offenders in residential areas,” Richmond Area Command’s Detective Inspector Steve Clarke said.

“Offenders have intercepted mail containing credit cards which have been fraudulently signed, activated and then accessed.

“Residents need to secure mail boxes to prevent theft by opportunistic offenders, or to collect credit and bank cards directly from their financial institution.

“In this festive season the volume of mail and parcel delivery greatly increases.

“Police ask residents to be vigilant and to report to police any suspicious activity.”
