A report will be prepared for the Coroner following the death of two men in a head-on collision at Evans Head yesterday. One of the men killed was Richmond Valley Councillor Ray Jeffery, aged 75
Police said that about 5pm a Toyota Hilux and a Holden Commodore were travelling in opposite directions along the Evans Head-Woodburn Road in Evans Head, when they collided head-on about seven kilometres east of the Pacific Highway. It is not yet known which directions the respective vehicles were travelling in.
Officers attached to Richmond Local Area Command, the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit, SES and ambulance staff attended the scene.
The 44-year-old driver of the Toyota died on impact.
The 75-year-old driver of the Holden suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.
The road was closed for several hours with traffic diversions in place.
