New specialist team to assist Richmond Landcare
December 23, 2008
The umbrella network for Landcare groups in the Richmond catchment, Richmond Landcare Inc (RLI), has a new specialist team to assist Landcare activities in the region.
The chairman, David McInnes-King, said that after the departure of full-time officer Jackie Luethi to Land & Water Australia at Canberra, the management committee had decided that the role would be split to provide specialist services.
The new part-time team are:
- Tony Walker, (RLI Secretary/Treasurer) takes on the shared role of part-time Community Support Officer, with emphasis on indigenous landcare, landcare farming, local government landcare and landcare administration.
- Neil Denison, part-time Community Support Officer, specialising in bush regeneration and Dunecare.
- Stuart Willows, Junior Landcare Officer
- Neville Sloss, Public Relations Officer.
“Tony has been Secretary/Treasurer for four years and the Committee was delighted that he could find some time away from his farming activities to assist in the management of the day-to-day activities. Our other members all have specialist skills for their portfolios, so the team is very well equipped to support member groups,” said David.
“We have over 60 member Landcare groups representing about 2000 individuals, and assist them in a variety of ways, as well as administering state and federal grants.”
RLI represents Dunecare, Rivercare, Landcare, Coastcare and farming groups on the Far North Coast of NSW.
RLI is an incorporated non-profit group and acts as an umbrella landcare network and lobby group for regional Landcare groups, provides information on natural resource management issues, provides environmental training and educational opportunities.
An important role for RLI is assisting people to form their own Landcare groups and the team will be helping in this activity.
