Improvements to safety on the Bruxner Highway between Captains Flat Road and Rodgers Road near Tabulam are now complete.

The $61,100 project was completed by Kyogle Shire Council and is part of the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program.

“This is another example of the Federal Government working closely with the states and local government to improve road safety and traffic congestion,” Member for Page Janelle Saffin said.

“In the past five years there have been four incidents just on this section of road and the new signage and guardrails along this section of the highway will reduce the potential for off road crashes.”

Ms Saffin commended the local council for nominating the project for the Black Spot Program with the aim to reduce off-road crashes in the area and encouraged other councils to nominate road safety black spots for funding.

“The Government is committed to improving our land transport network and has recognised the importance of the Black Spot Program through an additional $60 million provided in 2008-09,” she said.

Anyone can suggest a location or a section of road for black spot funding using a nomination form that can be downloaded from www.auslink.gov.au.
