Woman dies after being hit by a vehicle in Casino

A female pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in Casino last night.
About 11.15pm two women were in Hare Street, Casino, when one of them was struck by an eastbound Toyota four-wheel-drive.
As a result the 34-year-old local woman sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lismore Base Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The other woman, aged 36, was uninjured; however, she was treated for shock at Casino Hospital.
A crime scene was established and the driver of the Toyota, a 53-year-old local man, assisted police at Casino Police Station before being released pending further inquiries.
Officers from the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and inquiries into the incident are continuing.
