Police are appealing for information from the public after a man was found with significant injuries head at Byron Bay yesterday.

About 3am (Sunday 11 May), police attended the roundabout at the corner of Jonson Street and Lawson Street after receiving information of a male lying on the road.

As police arrived several people came to the aid of the 30-year-old Irish national.

The man was conveyed by ambulance to a Brisbane hospital and remains in a coma in a critical condition.

Police have been told several males were involved in a physical altercation with the victim.

A number of people are believed to have witnessed the incident but have yet to speak with police.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may be able to assist with the investigation to contact Byron Bay Detectives or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
