April 7, 2009
A woman and child have been rescued from floodwaters near Mullumbimby, and the State Emergency Service has warned that, following heavy rain overnight, minor flooding is occuring in the Brunswick River catchment.
“The SES Mullumbimby Unit, with assistance from the NSW Police, successfully rescued a woman from her vehicle that was stuck in flood waters,” the SES said.
“Flash flooding has closed several roads in the Far North Coast area and with further heavy rain possible, the SES is urging people never to drive, ride or walk through floodwaters.”
In a life-threatening emergency, call 000. For general flood and storm assistance, call the SES on 132 500.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) says the flood threat has eased in the Brunswick River valley since this morning, with only light rainfall recorded since 6am today.
At Billinudgel, Marshalls Creek peaked around 2.3 metres (near Minor Flood level) 10.30 this morning. The water levels are now falling.
The outlook for the far northern NSW coast is for mostly cloudy with isolated showers, tending scattered near the coast.
