A 10-year-old cellist is set to win some hearts when he performs at the Tweed Seniors Expo near Murwillumbah on Thursday May 21.
Diminutive Stephen Aveling-Rowe has already recorded a CD and DVD, and also is accomplished on the piano and pipe organ. Profits from his performances go towards charity work in India.
Seniors will be on song at the Seniors Expo too, with performances by the recorder ensemble La Fontanella. The group began through the Lismore/Alstonville University of the Third Age (U3A) over 10 years ago and has an extensive repertoire.
Tweed Shire Seniors Week Committee chairperson Pauline Dow said La Fontanella bring a quality to recorder music that is astounding.
“The ensemble play recorders ranging in size from the high-pitched and tiny garklein to a subcontra great bass which stands 2.5m tall,” Mrs Dow said.
The celebrity guest at the Tweed Seniors Expo will be Noeline Brown, one of Australia’s best-loved actors, who will be speaking at the Expo venue at 11.30am.
The Logie Award winner started her acting career in 1962 and is well-known by many for her roles in The Mavis Brampton Show, The Naked Vicar Show, Blankety Blanks and more recently on the TV series Dancing with the Stars.
The entertainment is only a small part of what is shaping up to be a very big day of information and activity.
The Tweed Seniors Expo will be held from 9am until 3pm at the Seventh Day Adventist Centre, Racecourse Road, Murwillumbah. Entry cost is $2.
