Koala Beach Sports Fields: visitors asked to leave their dogs at home

May 7, 2009

The Koala Beach Wildlife and Habitat Management Committee has reminded users of the Koala Beach Sports Fields of the no-dogs rule applying to the fields.

“The estate is designated a cat-free and dog-free zone. The estate is a very minute percentage point of this vast land and we are trying to preserve it for the native animals while we live amongst nature,” a spokeswoman said.

“We are asking for respect for this way of life in this estate. The estate community abide by the rules and we all beseech you to let your soccer players know the rules and that their dogs are not legally or morally welcome at Koala Beach.

“There are fines from the local council, a minimum of $110, that would apply to people bringing their dog to the field and then there is the major fine of $220,000 and two years in prison for the owner of the dog that kills or maims a threatened species.

“Koala Beach does have quite a few threatened species on site.

“The whole of the estate has a speed limit of 40 kilometres also, and the children and wildlife often play on the roads in the estate.”

The spokeswoman said visiting teams were bringing dogs with them and exceeding the speed limit.
