zannsKinglake fire victims Richard, Eileen and Eva Zann were laid to rest at Evans Head today, almost four months after their deaths on February 7 in the Victorian bushfire tragedy.

The Zann legacy will be forever remembered with the establishment by La Trobe University of the Dr Richard Zann Memorial Scholarship.

Mourners today filled the Evans Head Catholic Church to remember the family. Dr and Mrs Zann were married in the church on December 29, 1970.

Mrs Zann (born in England, 5/8/1946) was a former dancer with the New Zealand Dance Company and in Australia was a respected dance teacher.

Eva Zann, who was aged 26, worked in public relations.

Dr Zann was born in Casino, a son of Gwen and the late Leon Zann.

Leon Zann also built a home at Evans Head, and Dr Zann and his family spent every Christmas holidaying there, where his brother Tony still lives.

Richard and Eileen’s son Christopher today gave a moving account of ‘My Family’ and ‘Eileen’s Life’.

Other speakers were Dr Zann’s brothers Michael and Tony, and extended family members Rebecca Zann, Christabel Miller and Sue Zann.

The Zanns were laid to rest at the Evans Head Lawn Cemetery.
