Member for Page, Janelle Saffin, has welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement that the Richmond-Tweed, Clarence and Mid North Coast areas are the latest priority areas for the Government’s Jobs and Training Compact.

“I had requested that our area be included as a priority area under the Jobs and Training Compact, and the flooding over the past week was clearly the last straw for the local economy,” she said.

“Today’s announcement means that my electorate of Page has now been identified as a disadvantaged or at-risk region for employment.

“We now have a local employment co-ordinator who will be working with community organisations to identify innovative projects to be developed under the Government’s Jobs Fund.

“I am pleased to announce that Christine Williams from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations has been named as the interim local employment co-ordinator for the North Coast region.”

The announcement has also been welcomed by Elizabeth McGregor, the Director of North Coast TAFE, who had lobbied Janelle Saffin and the Member for Lyne, Rob Oakeshott, for these areas to be included.

“We are a region with great assets and strong enterprises and the targeted assistance that will be available following the announcement will make a real difference,” Ms McGregor said.
