17-year-old girl arrested after Byron Bay alleged robbery, assault

A man has suffered serious facial injuries after being struck by a bottle outside a café in Byron Bay over the weekend.
About 4pm yesterday, the 33-year-old man was sitting outside the Browning Street café when a girl has allegedly struck him across the face, causing the bottle to shatter, before attempting to grab his laptop. The man managed to fight the youth off and retain the computer.
The girl ran from the café and was arrested a short distance away by responding police.
The 17-year-old was charged with attempted robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon causing wounding.
She appeared before the Lismore Children’s Court today and was bail-refused to appear at Byron Bay Local Court tomorrow.
The man was taken to Byron Bay Hospital where he received 15 stitches to a deep wound on the top of his right eyelid.
