Page MP Janelle Saffin will host Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan for a community fundraising dinner in Grafton on Wednesday night, July 8.

Mr Swan will speak at Victoria’s Restaurant, the Quality Inn, Grafton, from 7pm.

Ms Saffin said Mr Swan would provide insights into how he and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd were steering the Australian economy through the worst global financial crisis in 75 years.

“And as a high-profile survivor of prostate cancer, Wayne is a vocal and tireless advocate for the early detection of the disease. I was with him when he launched a new DVD on prostate cancer treatments at Parliament House a few weeks ago,” Ms Saffin said.

“This dinner, the start of a two-day visit to Page by the Treasurer, is a great opportunity for Clarence Valley people to meet with a senior Labor politician and to raise funds for two very worthwhile causes.”

Proceeds from the $85-a-head dinner will go to the Clarence Business Enterprise Advisory Service (C-BEAS), which provides support to local businesses, and to the Clarence Valley Prostate Cancer Support Group, towards more medical research.

Gate To Plate chef Jeremy Steele has prepared a four-course winter menu with matching wines, and the Quality Inn’s managers, Sue and Kevin Spinks, have donated a raffle prize of a dinner for two at Victoria’s Restaurant.

Master of Ceremonies will be The Daily Examiner’s Editor, Peter Chapman.

Bookings and pre-payment for the Wayne Swan dinner can be made at C-BEAS 49 Queen Street, Grafton, or by phoning 0266 429 700 during business hours Monday to Friday.
