Northern Rivers Indigenous Arts Business Centre gets funding boost
July 8, 2009
Page MP Janelle Saffin has welcomed today’s announcement of triennial funding for the Northern Rivers Indigenous Arts Business Centre.
“Last month I launched the 3 Rivers Aboriginal Art Space in Lismore, a remarkable mix of workshop, training space, gallery and place to share culture which will add to the richness of the arts in our area,” she said.
“It is fantastic to be able to follow that up with today’s visit by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, Peter Garrett, and his announcement of more than $237,000 in triennial funding for the Northern Rivers Indigenous Arts Business Centre.
“I want to pay tribute to Bundjalung artist Digby Moran and other members of the Indigenous Artists Advisory Group who have worked so hard towards their vision of a local Indigenous Arts Centre, and to Lois Randall from Arts Northern Rivers for her key role in promoting local art and artists.
“It is to their credit that they have now secured three years funding towards the running costs of the 3 Rivers Aboriginal Art Space and for the Indigenous Arts Development Officer, Frances Belle Parker, to continue her work in assisting and promoting local artists.
“I’m also delighted with the Minister’s announcement of $115,000 for Arts Northern Rivers to engage an Indigenous Arts Business Manager to provide business and marketing support for Indigenous artists.
“The project aims to increase arts sales through the development of new work and products, licensing opportunities and marketing kits.
“This combined funding ensures that Indigenous arts and artists will continue to develop and thrive here in the Northern Rivers, and I thank Minister Peter Garrett for this support of our local arts community.,”
