July 9, 2009
Musica Viva Lismore Concert
7.30pm Wednesday August 12, 2009,
Lismore City Hall
John Chen, piano
In 2004 at the age of 18, John Chen became the youngest ever winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition.
His interpretive skills have won him many prizes and accolades. ‘A young musician of exceptional promise … his playing is extremely accomplished … admirable virtues of youth, vitality, freshness and energy.’
John has travelled extensively and performed as soloist, and with all major Australian and NZ symphony orchestras.
He is also an accomplished chamber musician. His trip in 2008 to Byron, where he performed with violinist Ning Feng, was described by more than one Musica Viva regular as ‘one of the best concerts ever, locally’.
“We are fortunate to be part of John’s whirlwind trip to northern NSW. He is only performing three other concerts on his way from New Zealand to the UK,” a Musica Viva spokeswoman said.
“He will be performing works in a diversity of styles including those of Haydn, Debussy, Beethoven, Ravel and Tchaikovsky.”
