A former teacher has been arrested and charged with alleged possession of child pornography following an investigation by police in Lismore.
On Friday 23 January 2009, police were called to a private high school in Lismore, after pornographic magazines were found dumped in a garbage bin at the location.
Police will allege the magazines contained sexually explicit images of children. An investigation was conducted during which police seized a computer from the high school.
On Tuesday 27 January 2009, detectives also conducted a search warrant at the home of a 40-year-old Alstonville man where they seized an amount of computer equipment including a laptop computer, USB stick, hard drive and CDs.
Both computers were later scientifically examined and it is alleged an amount of child pornography was found on them.
Earlier today (Friday 10 July) the 40-year-old man attended Hurstville Police Station where he was arrested by detectives and questioned about the matter.
He was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and given conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 10 September.
