Greens spokesperson on planning to visit
July 11, 2009
NSW Greens MP and spokesperson on planning matters Sylvia Hale will be in the Tweed, Byron Bay and Lismore areas from Monday 13 to Wednesday 16 July to attend a series of rallies and public meetings about over-development and problems with the NSW planning system.
Ms Hale will be speaking at a rally in Hastings Point on Sunday at 12:00 midday. She will then be giving a presentation to public forums in Lismore on Monday night and Mullumbimby on Tuesday night.
The ‘Planning for the People’ Public Forums will examine how the community can seize back control of the State’s planning
system.
Ms Hale will deliver a brief but detailed presentation on what she says is wrong with the NSW planning system and how to fix it, looking at the origins of environmental and heritage protection laws in the community protests and the green ban movement of the 1970s through to how millions of dollars of political donations from the property development industry has led to those laws being systematically watered down to allow today’s development free-for-all.
