Page MP Janelle Saffin has recognised the achievements of three local high school students who have been awarded the 2008 Australian Vocational Student Prize (AVSP).

“The AVSP promotes Vocational Education and Training (VET) as a valuable pathway for students,” Ms Saffin said.

“The three local AVSP winners who have achieved outstanding results in their vocational certificate training are: Joshua Pauling from Ballina high School for Electro technology Systems, Electrician II and Construction ll; Sarah Cone from Bonalbo Central School for Multimedia ll, and Amanda Cselka from Evans River K-12 for Hospitality ll.

“Each of these students will receive $2000 and a certificate to mark their achievements.

“The AVSP award recognises the importance of vocational education and training to both the future of our young people, and to the economy.

“The significant achievements of these students has given them a better understanding of the world of work and enabled them to develop industry-specific skills and experience, all while studying for their Senior Secondary Certificates.

“I congratulate Joshua, Sarah and Amanda and I also commend their school principals and trainers for doing such a great job in supporting these young Australians to develop and foster their industry skills.”
