Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin has welcomed news that local veterans will benefit from two projects under the Commonwealth’s Veteran and Community Grants program.

Ms Saffin said that the City of Lismore RSL Sub-branch will receive $16,758 to help purchase tools and equipment to enhance local Men’s Shed activities.

And the Ballina Sub-section of the Naval Association of Australia will receive $11,629 to fund a series of bus trips to help reduce social isolation in the local veteran community.

Ms Saffin said the grants demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to organisations that care for the veteran community, and encourage veterans, war widows and widowers and their families to get involved in health and well-being activities.

“The Veteran and Community Grants program helps fund local initiatives which improve access to community care services and promote social interaction through Men’s Sheds, social excursions and Day Clubs,” Ms Saffin said.

Federal Minister for Veterans Affairs Alan Griffin announced more than $1.2 million in funding to support 78 health and wellbeing projects across Australia.

Local and community organisations interested in applying for funding should visit www.dva.gov.au/grants or contact their nearest DVA office on 1800 555 254.
