Police are questioning a man over the stabbing death of a woman following a raid on a property this morning.

As a result of inquiries by police, uniformed officers from Kyogle Police Station attended a local property, with the assistance of the Dog Unit.

A 20-year-old man was arrested about 8.45am in an abandoned house on the property in Kyogle.

The man was taken to Casino Police Station where he was treated for a minor dog bite injury sustained during the arrest.

The man is being questioned over the death of a woman, whose body was found by emergency services personnel about 12.30am yesterday (Saturday 5 September) inside a residence on Albert Street, Casino.

The 36-year-old woman was found suffering a number of stab wounds. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in the coming days to officially determine how she died.

Meanwhile, forensic specialists worked throughout yesterday to examine the residence, while inquiries into her death were conducted by detectives from Richmond Local Area Command.

A number of items which were seized by police during the crime scene examination will be forensically examined.
