Search to resume at Grafton for missing 76-year-year fisherman

September 7, 2009

A search will resume today for a 76-year-old man feared drowned on the Clarence River in Grafton.

About 8am yesterday a witness saw the elderly man sitting in his 12ft aluminium fishing boat about 1km from the Corcoran Park boat ramp on Villiers Street.

About 10.45am the man’s boat was seen floating in the river, however the occupant was not in the vessel.

A canvass of the area located the man’s car still parked at the boat ramp, and the man’s belongings were still in the boat.

A search of the area was conducted without success.

The search will resume at fist light today with police from the Coffs Clarence Local Area Command and volunteers from the State Emergency Service.

NSW Police Divers are on stand-by to join in the search.
