MP thanks Kyogle, Tweed shire residents over Repco Rally

September 16, 2009

Tweed and Kyogle residents have been thanked in the New South Wales Parliament for making the World Repco Rally, Speed on Tweed and the Tyalgum Festival of Classic Music such a success.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, Lismore Nationals MP Thomas George said: “I place on record my congratulations and appreciation to the communities of Kyogle and Tweed shires.

“I compliment the New South Wales police and the two shire councils on their wonderful contribution in making the rally a safe, successful and wonderful event.”

Mr George said he now wanted residents to provide him with constructive feedback about the Repco Rally.

“The Nationals secured an amendment to the Rally legislation, which forces the Government to review key aspects of the event, including consulting with the local community,” Mr George said.

“I welcome all comments, positive or negative, so long as they have a genuine bearing on the event and its impact on our region.

“Residents can email lismore@parliament.nsw.gov.au or write to me at PO Box 52, Lismore 2480.”

In his speech, Mr George asserted that violent protests had backfired on anti-rally campaigners.

“The protestors said that the weekend would disrupt the community, the environment and the world. I can advise the House that the protestors were the only ones who caused any disruption during this fantastic weekend. They created division within the community,” he said.
