Six of Australia’s best artists celebrate the Tweed
September 27, 2009
In conjunction with the Tweed River Art Gallery’s 20th anniversary, the gallery is excited to present the Anniversary Print Collection.
This project began when six renowned artists, who represent of the best in contemporary printmaking practice in Australia, were commissioned to create work in response to the gallery and its setting.
Gallery Director Susi Muddiman said that during their recent visit to the area, artists GW Bot, Jan Davis, Graham Fransella, Marco Luccio, Euan Macleod and Graeme Peebles were inspired by the Tweed Shire’s beautiful landscape and the prize-winning architecture of the gallery, the diverse flora and fauna of the area, and the potential for leisure and industry that the Tweed offers.
This project resulted in the creation of six unique artists’ prints that have been produced in a limited edition of 20, marking the gallery’s anniversary year.
A limited edition print is one that is reproduced in limited numbers, then signed by the artist and numbered to indicate their place in a series – for example the numbers ’3/20′ would indicate the print was the third print in an edition of 20.
“Don’t miss this rare opportunity to acquire six works of art by six of Australia’s most creative practitioners. These artists are renowned throughout Australia and beyond. It is a once in a lifetime chance to acquire this collection of works at such a reasonable price,” Ms Muddiman said.
The Anniversary Print Collection comprises a set that contains one print from each artist’s edition which is presented in a specially crafted, archivally-sound ‘ready to hang’ frame.
This single frame holds one selected print for display, while the remaining five prints are contained in a recessed section at the back. This allows the owner to change the displayed print whenever they want.
From the 20 sets produced, one has been acquired for the gallery’s collection; with the remaining 19 now available for sale through the Gallery Shop for the price of $1000.
In addition to that limited edition, one set of Artists’ Proofs will be sold through the Gallery by silent auction.
An artist’s proof is a term used to indicate the print that constitutes the artist’s final approval of their limited edition. Artist’s proofs are generally considered a status symbol in the world of art collecting, and therefore command a higher sale price with their resale value proportionally higher than the numbered editions.
This sought-after set of Artists’ Proofs is now on display in the gallery foyer and will be sold to the highest bid (above the reserve price of $1000) received before Monday 16 November 2009.
If you would like to purchase a set of numbered prints from the Anniversary Print Collection, or submit a bid for the set of Artists’ Proofs, contact the Tweed River Art Gallery by telephone on 02 6670 2790 or email at tweedart@tweed.nsw.gov.au
