Curves Gym holds Girls Night In launch

October 8, 2009

Women from across the Far North Coast Region are preparing to come together to help celebrate five years of Cancer Council’s Girls Night In – a women’s cancer awareness and fund-raising initiative.

Cancer Council’s Alstonville regional office will officially launch this year’s local Girls Night In campaign, which raises funds specifically for women’s cancer research, information and support services, at Curves Gym, 21 Conway Street, Lismore, on Friday, 9th October 2009, at 6pm.

Curves Gym plans to spoil attending ladies with a “Pampering Evening”. Pink Champagne and pink nibbles will be provided and a beautician will be on hand to offer pampering mini sessions.

The official launch provides an opportunity to formally thank and acknowledge outstanding local fund-raisers from last year’s campaign, as well as give women a chance to get together, share fundraising tips and get excited for the girly gossip to come throughout October.

It’s also a chance to celebrate the achievements and progress in the fight against women’s cancers over the past five years, made possible with the help of local fundraisers.

Since it began in 2005, more than 22,000 Girls Night In events have been held, and more than $12 million has been raised across Australia for the women’s cancer cause.

Last year, Girls Night In hosts from Far North Coast raised more than $82,000 towards women’s cancers (breast and gynaecological) by simply spending a night at home with their girlfriends in October and donating the money they would have spent on a night out.

“Around 265 women in our region are diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer each year. With 62 dying from these cancers each year, we need the women of Far North Coast to do all they can to help support their girls,” said Sandra Rowan, Community Relations Co-ordinator at Cancer Council’s Alstonville regional office.
