October 13, 2009

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner following the discovery of a man’s body near Tenterfield.

About 11.40am today, searchers discovered the body of a man in the Bald Rock area, 45km north of Tenterfield.

A crime scene has been established and rescuers were attempting to retrieve the body. The man is yet to be identified.

Police had been searching for a German national who went missing while bushwalking with friends yesterday afternoon.

A 24-year-old German national was bushwalking yesterday with three friends at Bald Rock, Boonoo Boonoo National Park, when about 3pm he separated from the group.

When he did not return moments later, the group began a search, however, were unsuccessful in locating him.

The group returned to the base of Bald Rock where they alerted emergency services.

Yesterday afternoon, police and emergency services conducted a search of the area including known walking tracks, however scaled down the search due to bad light and weather.

An extensive search was commenced this morning, utilising police from New England Local Area Command, State Emergency Service (SES), National Parks and Wildlife, and Police Air Wing.
