Cyclists prepare for rescue helicopter fundraiser
October 14, 2009
It’s just days until the 2009 Yellow Pages Hell on Wheels Cycle Tour gets under way and the riders say the adrenalin has already started pumping.
In the lead-up to Saturday’s kick-off of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter fundraiser in Tenterfield, tour riders are busy carrying out final inspections on their bikes and ensuring their fitness levels are up to the gruelling 550 kilometre event that takes riders across northern NSW.
Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter general manager Kris Beavis said the tour was a fun event but carried a very important message.
“There’s nearly 40 riders involved in Yellow Pages Hell on Wheels and they’re all looking forward to the challenge and the camaraderie,” he said.
“But every rider knows their contribution in this event is helping to keep Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter flying.
“At about $5500 per mission, saving lives isn’t cheap. So we’re asking people to get behind this event by making a donation and playing a part in supporting the important work done by the rescue helicopter.”
Mr Beavis said riders were aiming to raise $52,000 during the eight-day event. He is encouraging individuals and businesses to sponsor a rider or simply make a donation by calling 6627 4444 or visiting www.helirescue.com.au

The Hell On Wheels is a great challenge for oneself whilst doing something great (that is fundraising for a purposeful course) for the community. Worth a try and maybe you will just come back again, I did.
