Clarence Valley bushfire update

Rural Fire Service firefighters continue to work to contain blazes in the Clarence Valley.
The RFS says conditions at Brooms Head have eased and currently there are no properties under threat. Approximately 40 RFS and National Parks firefighters are working on the fire.
The fire is still burning uncontained to the west of Brooms Head, with firefighters concentrating on containment along Brooms Head Road to the north, with the support of aircraft.
Southern containment lines are also being targeted ahead of a wind change this afternoon.
Sandon Camping ground to the south of Brooms Head has been closed. People staying in the area are being encouraged to relocate as a precautionary measure due to the limited access.
People in the area may continue to experience smoke and embers. Continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of firefighters. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.
Fire permits have been suspended in the Clarence Valley District. Due to fire activity, access has been restricted to a number of National Parks. For information on park closures associated with these fires, please visit the NPWS website.
Meanwhile, property protection was carried out yesterday along Pringles Way, Tanglewood Road, Summerland Way and Lawrence Road.
There are currently no properties under threat, however, people in the area should continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of firefighters. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.
Residents in the area are advised that they may continue to experience smoke and embers and should ensure their home is properly prepared.
Local road closures may be in place and the public is asked to stay away from the fire area. Smoke may affect some roads and motorist are advised to slow down and turn on headlights when travelling through the area.

A Section 44 bush fire emergency was declared for the area yesterday afternoon meaning more resources are available for the fire fighting effort.
A fire is burning at Matenga Creek, 10km west of Minni Water. The fire has burned approximately 500 hectares of bushland.
Approximately 25 firefighters are working on the fire today. Backburning operations are being carried out in the area. As these continue, people in the area may notice an increase in fire, smoke and ash.
