Brooms Head fire conditions expected to ease overnight

Conditions in the Brooms Head bushfire are expected to ease overnight and there are currently no properties under threat.

The Rural Fire Service says the fire continues to burn strongly to the south-west of Brooms Head, with additional containment lines being prepared, in the event the fire travels further than expected.

Firefighters will concentrate on containment along Brooms Head Road to the north tonight, with extensive backburning operations planned ahead of expected southerly winds forecast for tomorrow.

While no properties are under threat, people in the areas of Wooleweyah, Angourie and Sandon should ensure their properties are prepared. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.

Sandon camping ground has been closed as a precautionary measure due to limited access.

People in the area may continue to experience smoke and embers. Continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of firefighters. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.

Fire permits have been suspended in the Clarence Valley District. Due to fire activity, access has been restricted to a number of National Parks. For information on park closures associated with these fires, please visit the NPWS Website .

* A fire continues to burn in the area of Russell Road at Gurranang, 35km north of Grafton.

Firefighters are continuing to work on containing the fire. Work is continuing on containment lines and backburning operations on the south-western and western parts of the fire.

There are currently no properties under threat. However, people in the area should continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of firefighters. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.

Residents in the area are advised that they may continue to experience smoke and embers and should ensure their home is properly prepared.

Local road closures may be in place and the public is asked to stay away from the fire area. Smoke may affect some roads and motorist are advised to slow down and turn on headlights when travelling through the area.
