Brooms Head fire update for Saturday morning

Firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Fire Brigades and the National Parks and Wildlife Service today will continue to work to the north, south and west of Brooms Head village, backburning and preparing containment lines.
Overnight firefighters have continued to work to establish containment lines to the north of the fire. Crews continue to conduct backburning operations along Brooms Head Road and Wallaby Lane to try and prevent the fire’s spread.
Brooms Head Road is closed to all but local traffic as firefighters carry out backburning operations to try and contain the fire.
Motorists on the Pacific Highway are advised that depending on wind conditions, smoke may affect the area. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions.
Heavy plant and backburning is being used to establish and strengthen containment lines in the western and southern parts of the fire.
While no properties are under direct threat, people in the areas of Wooleweyah, Angourie, Sandon, Minnie Water, Wooli, Diggers Camp and Pillar Valley should ensure their properties are prepared. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.
Sandon, Red Cliff (Lake Arragan) and Illaroo camping grounds have been closed as a precautionary measure due to limited access.
People in the area may continue to experience smoke and embers. Continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of firefighters. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.
Fire permits have been suspended in the Clarence Valley District. Due to fire activity, access has been restricted to a number of National Parks. For information on park closures associated with these fires, please visit the NPWS Website.
* Firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) are currently working on a fire burning in inaccessible terrain around 35km north west of Grafton.
The fire is currently burning 4km south-west of Coaldale. Crews are working to identify and construct containment lines around the fire.
There are currently no properties under threat, however, people in the area should ensure their properties are prepared, continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of firefighters. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.
* Firefighters have contained a fire burning in the area of Russell Road at Gurranang, 35km north of Grafton.
Firefighters contained the fire overnight by constructing containment lines and carrying out backburning operations on the southern and western parts of the fire.
Crews will continue to strenghten and mop up containment lines throughout the day.
There are currently no properties under immediate threat, however, people in the area should continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of firefighters.
Residents in the area are advised that they may continue to experience smoke and embers and should ensure their home is properly prepared. Residents along the Pringles Way, Summerland Way, Tanglewood Road and Lawrence Road areas should follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.
Local road closures may be in place and the public is asked to stay away from the fire area. Smoke may affect some roads and motorists are advised to slow down and turn on headlights when travelling through the area.

A Section 44 bushfire emergency was declared for the area on Wednesday afternoon meaning more resources are available for the fire fighting effort.
